Overview
Boca
Del Mar is an upper-middle class census-designated place located in the
unincorporated area of Boca Raton in Palm Beach County, Florida. As of
the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 21,832. Its
neighborhood association refers to it as a "master planned residential
community" because it was developed in accordance with a plan devised in
1971. Its location is just outside the incorparated area of Boca Raton,
which adjoins it on the north and east.
Demographics
There were 10,911 households out of which 16.5% had children under the
age of 18 living with them, 42.2% were married couples living together,
7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 48.1% were
non-families. 39.9% of all households were made up of individuals and
17.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The
average household size was 1.95 and the average family size was 2.60.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 14.4% under the age of 18,
6.3% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 27.6%
who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For
every 100 females there were 83.0 males. For every 100 females age 18
and over, there were 79.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $52,335, and the median
income for a family was $69,531. Males had a median income of $49,013
versus $35,485 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was
$36,983. About 1.7% of families and 4.3% of the population were below
the poverty line, including 2.5% of those under age 18 and 3.3% of those
age 65 or over.
